Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) provides in-flight catering and support services for more than 120 airlines flying into or out of Dubai International Airport and has the capacity to produce over 175,000 meals per day from its two technologically-advanced catering facilities.
EKFC1, which is dedicated to providing meals for passengers travelling on Emirates airline, is the largest and most modern catering facility in the world; EKFC2 serves all other carriers, including Singapore Airlines, Air France, Swiss and Virgin Atlantic.
In total Emirates Flight Catering has more than 6,000 employees who produce an average of 115,000 meals per day for passengers travelling on around 300 different flights.
Catering facilities at Dubai International Airport date back to 1975 when 2,000-2,500 meals were produced per day. EKFC was formed from the original Emirates Abela Catering Company in 2003 with the original building becoming EKFC2 when the new facility became operational in July 2007.
Emirates Flight Catering recruits chefs with bespoke experience in culinary traditions in line with the demands and tastes of its customers’ palates and with the airlines’ destinations. A Japanese chef creates a regional range of sushi for the Japanese routes; an Indian specialist prepares a myriad of different curries to cater for Indian sub-continent flights; and a chef from the US advises on best menu options for flights to America.
All EKFC facilities – including Food Point and industrial laundry plant Linencraft, (which has the capacity to process over 80 tons of linen and laundry a day), have five-star ratings for Occupational Health and Safety.
EKFC has also expanded into the events market, providing catering services for high-profile exhibitions and sports tournaments such as the biennial Dubai International Aerospace Exhibition, GITEX, the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Dubai Rugby Sevens.
